Why No Two Live-Edge Tables Are Ever the Same

One of the questions we are frequently asked is whether we can reproduce a table exactly as shown in a photograph.

The answer is simple: not entirely.

And that is precisely what makes live-edge furniture special.

Unlike mass-produced furniture made from uniform materials, every live-edge slab begins with a unique tree. The tree’s species, age, growing conditions, exposure to weather, and even its environment all influence the character of the wood.

As a result, no two slabs are ever identical.

Some feature flowing grain patterns that resemble rivers. Others contain knots, burls, colour variations, or natural markings that tell the story of the tree’s life. Even the live edges themselves — formed by the tree’s natural outline — are completely unique.

At Art of Suar Wood, we believe these natural features should be celebrated rather than hidden. Instead of trimming every slab into perfect rectangles, we preserve the organic contours wherever possible. These natural edges create furniture that feels authentic, distinctive, and connected to nature.

Many customers initially search for a specific design they have seen online. However, once they visit our workshop and view the actual slabs, they often discover a piece that speaks to them in an entirely unexpected way.

Choosing a live-edge table is not simply about selecting dimensions or wood species. It is about finding a piece with a personality that resonates with you and complements your space.

This is why we encourage our customers to participate in the design process. From selecting the slab and determining the dimensions to choosing the base design and finish, each decision helps create a piece that is truly personal.

The result is more than furniture.

It becomes a gathering place for family meals, conversations, celebrations, work, creativity, and everyday moments. Over time, it develops a story of its own.

In a world increasingly filled with identical products, live-edge furniture offers something refreshingly different — authenticity.

No two trees are alike.
No two live-edge tables should be either.
